Boxwood Skull

£300.00

An anatomical study of an adult Human skull, delicately hand carved from English Boxwood. This magnificent timber takes hundreds of years to gain anything more than being a small shrub so the wood is tightly grained and beautifully coloured with rich tones and gorgeous patterns within it.
This piece was sympathetically harvested from the gardens of a stately home on a local estate as on going maintenance and management of the grounds planted in 1700's for King Charles the 1st.
Boxwood has long been highly valued by carvers for centuries and was often used to carver religious icons and fetishes as the wood carved a lot like ivory and can take great detail and finish.
This skull is a good handful of timber and is extremely tactile making it a great desk mascot to keep by the phone as a fiddle toy during long calls or zoom meetings.
