An anatomical study of Human Foetus skull at 30 weeks development. Delicately hand carved from English Boxwood to 1:1 scale (life sized) this poignant portrait captures all the details of a real Skull in a rich deep characterful cut of this exquisite hard wood. Some Splattering is captured in the wood and there are some hairline cracks from the natural drying and seasoning of the log that it was carved from. I never try to hide these characteristics in my carvings as they are part of the character and charm of the natural material I chose to work with and I feel they only ever add to the finished pieces.
The skull is finished with a light brushing of danish wood oil and is otherwise simply the raw wood in its natural finish.
