Baltic Amber Necklace

This bold and beautiful set is 29inches long, and is entirely made of natural nuggets of Baltic Amber, just as they came from the sea, I have not polished or shaped these pieces, other than drilling the hole for the hand woven rope.

A surprisingly light weight set of beads, this set will fit over most heads but I have included a carved toggle for completeness sakes and for the reason that when not being worn these make a remarkably tactile object that is just nice to fiddle with and look at in the hand while contemplating and concentrating.

I wear several sets of these my self and they only get better with wear, they naturally start to polish themselves as you go and then the colours really start to show and the little clear windows that wear in the edges of the beads some times reveal a tiny passenger trapped in time in there. Only wear and time can reveal what lays in these stones so keep it on and just watch what it does over the coming weeks months and years.

I have mixed as many different colours as I have here and this set reveals that Amber comes in many colour variations. I realised when I started collecting Amber why I had found so little in the past, I was looking for the bright yellow or orange stuff not realising that the real beauty is rather well hidden in other colours.

These pieces were not gathered by me but were gathered on the shores of the Baltic but a friend of mine in Latvia.
